The Rise of Norovirus

By: Ashley Rubin

BROOKLYN – As flu and sickness continue to be on a rise, the lives of our citizens are becoming vulnerable and some aren't immune to fight it. How much can America take? Deadly and unwelcome viruses continue to shock the world since 2020 to others appearing. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are trying their best to keep Coronavirus under control, but it's a fight every day. We should take every precaution and protocol to keep things in check and to prevent innocent lives from being affected by such illness in the world.

COVID-19 and Norovirus are two completely different viruses, however, they have some similarities.

"Both viruses spread via close contact with infected people or surfaces, Prevention includes handwashing and disinfecting surfaces, Both viruses are highly contagious, several variants..." MDPI Blog stated.

Coronavirus came and left its mark. With loved ones being deceased, elderly fighting to beat it, some who got over it but still have respiratory problems, etc. COVID-19 symptoms comprise fevers or chills, cough, difficult breathing, fatigue, body aches, headaches, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, runny nose, nausea, and diarrhea. Just a simple droplet from a person near them and the particles spread can infect a person.

With it being a common cold, but worse, it took a full swing on those who were asthmatic and had respiratory problems. Leaving a staggering number of people deceased across the globe.

Norovirus is spreading in the Northeast. It can also be referred to as a “stomach bug” or “stomach flu”. As it is very contagious, its symptoms are stomach pains, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. You can get this from any contaminated food from a person touching it. With no vaccines for this new virus, you have to just ride this one out till you feel like yourself again.

As Norovirus continues to make the news, we need to mask up and stay away from large crowds. However, it'll be challenging in an overpopulated city. As a whole we can fight these obstacles day by day and get the communities back stable.
